Comparison
Hims Heart Health, and the alternatives
What Hims Heart Health offers for cholesterol right now, how a statin prescription compares with treating to a target, and who should pick which.
Online, nationwide in the US. Protocols written by a board-certified preventive cardiologist.
TL;DR
Hims offers a compounded pill that pairs an ED medicine with atorvastatin, plus generic statins and ezetimibe and a lab membership. That works well if you already use Hims and a standard statin is all you need. If your LDL cholesterol (LDL-C) or ApoB is far from goal, you can't tolerate statins, or you may need a PCSK9 inhibitor, lipid-focused care built around a target fits better.
What Hims offers for cholesterol (as of October 2026)
- ED + Heart Health. A compounded 2-in-1 pill with tadalafil for ED and atorvastatin for cholesterol, according to Hims's own blog. Hims notes that compounded products are not FDA approved.
- Generic cholesterol medicines. Hims's pharmacy drug information (updated December 2025) lists atorvastatin, rosuvastatin, and ezetimibe under Heart Health generics.
- Labs by Hims. A lab membership with 130+ tests a year and a retest every six months, with an action plan that can include medication if you're eligible. Not available in Hawaii.
Verified on hims.com, Hims's blog, and support.hims.com as of October 2, 2026. The original hims.com/heart-health page did not load when we checked. We did not find PCSK9 inhibitors or prior-authorization support listed on Hims's site.
A statin prescription vs. treating to a target
A statin prescription starts treatment. Treating to a target adds an LDL goal, a recheck, and a plan for what to do if you don't reach it.
| Question | A statin prescription | Treat-to-target lipid care |
|---|---|---|
| What's the goal? | Start a cholesterol-lowering medicine | An LDL-C goal set for you (below 100, 70, or 55 mg/dL under the 2026 guideline, depending on risk), plus ApoB when useful |
| What if you're not at goal? | Varies by service | Recheck 4 to 12 weeks after a change, then step up: higher dose, ezetimibe, bempedoic acid, or a PCSK9 inhibitor |
| Statin side effects? | Varies by service | A plan with a different statin or dose, non-statin options, or injectables |
| Lp(a) and family history? | Varies by service | Built into the risk assessment and the goal |
Both approaches work for many people. A statin brings plenty of people to goal. The difference matters when it falls short, which happens often for people with very high LDL, a high Lp(a), or statin side effects. See our guides on how to lower LDL and statin side effects.
Hims may suit you if
- You already use Hims and like having everything in one app
- You want one pill for ED and cholesterol
- Your LDL is modestly high and a standard statin is likely enough
Preval Health may suit you if
- Your LDL, ApoB, or Lp(a)-related risk is high and you want a specific goal
- You're not at goal on a statin, or can't tolerate one
- You may need a PCSK9 inhibitor (Repatha, Praluent, Lipfendra, or Lerochol)
Preval Health does only prescription lipid management. A board-certified preventive cardiologist wrote our treatment protocols, and licensed clinicians in our partner telehealth network deliver care and write prescriptions. We run as a cash practice, at $99 a month for care.
Common questions
What is Hims Heart Health?
Heart Health covers Hims's cholesterol products. Hims's blog describes its ED + Heart Health product as a compounded 2-in-1 medication combining tadalafil (the active ingredient in Cialis) with the statin atorvastatin (the active ingredient in Lipitor). Hims also offers generic statins and ezetimibe. As of October 2026, the older hims.com/heart-health page shows a not-found message, so check Hims directly for current availability.
Does Hims prescribe statins?
Yes. Hims's pharmacy drug information, updated December 2025, lists generic atorvastatin, rosuvastatin, and ezetimibe under Heart Health generics, alongside the ED + Heart Health combination product. Prescriptions require an online consultation with a provider.
Is the Hims ED and statin combination pill FDA approved?
No. Hims describes ED + Heart Health as a compounded medication, and its own site notes that compounded products are not approved or evaluated for safety, effectiveness, or quality. The individual ingredients, tadalafil and atorvastatin, are FDA-approved drugs on their own.
Who is Hims a good fit for, for cholesterol?
Men who already use Hims, want the convenience of one pill for ED and cholesterol, and have cholesterol that a standard statin dose is likely to bring to goal. People far from their LDL goal, people who can't tolerate statins, and anyone who may need a PCSK9 inhibitor usually need more.
How is Preval Health different from Hims?
Hims runs a broad consumer health platform that treats cholesterol as one of many categories, and we didn't find PCSK9 inhibitors listed on its site as of October 2026. Preval Health does only prescription lipid management, with an LDL and ApoB goal, scheduled rechecks, and step-up treatment from statins through PCSK9 inhibitors, as a cash practice at $99 a month for care.
