Function Health alternatives, sorted by what you need next

Most people looking for a Function Health alternative want one of two things: a different lab membership, or someone to treat the ApoB or Lp(a) result they just got. Here are the options for each job.

TL;DR

Want another lab membership? Superpower is the closest match ($349 a year), InsideTracker fits lifestyle trackers, and Lifeforce adds quarterly labs and clinician visits for a monthly fee. Already have a high ApoB, LDL cholesterol (LDL-C), or Lp(a)? Your primary care clinician can treat it, and so can a lipid-focused practice like Preval Health, which does only prescription cholesterol care and works from the results you already have.

If you want a different lab membership

Superpower offers the closest like-for-like swap. As of October 2026 it costs $349 a year for 150+ biomarkers across a baseline draw and a retest, including ApoB and Lp(a), drawn at Quest labs. It also runs a prescription marketplace, priced separately, with options such as GLP-1s and testosterone. Its own comparison page lists the at-home draw as an extra $119.

Lifeforce takes a more hands-on approach: an at-home blood draw of 50+ biomarkers every three months, a 45-minute telehealth visit with a clinician each time, and health coaching, for $149 a month plus an upfront diagnostic (listed at $599 as of October 2026, often discounted in promotions). It focuses on hormones and longevity, and members can be prescribed medicines including the statin rosuvastatin and ezetimibe when appropriate.

InsideTracker centers on lifestyle. The $149-a-year membership lets you upload labs you already have, or you can buy panels; the Ultimate panel includes ApoB. Its recommendations cover nutrition, supplements, exercise, and lifestyle, without prescriptions.

If your ApoB, LDL, or Lp(a) came back high

You need a clinician who can set a target and prescribe. Lab memberships found the number. The next step is a clinician who sets a target and prescribes treatment to reach it.

Under the 2026 ACC/AHA guideline, LDL-C goals run from below 100 mg/dL for most lower-risk adults down to below 55 for people with heart disease at very high risk, and the guideline recommends measuring Lp(a) at least once. Our guides explain how to lower ApoB, how to lower LDL, and what a high Lp(a) means.

Your primary care clinician makes a great first stop for most people. Primary care treats high cholesterol every day, insurance usually covers it, and your clinician already knows your history.

A lipid-focused practice makes sense when cholesterol is the main problem: you're not at goal on a statin, can't tolerate one, have a high Lp(a) or a family history of early heart disease, or need a PCSK9 inhibitor approved. Cholesterol Doctors, led by a clinical lipidologist, runs a telemedicine practice that focuses on lipids. Preval Health offers another option.

How Preval Health works

Preval Health focuses only on prescription lipid management. A board-certified preventive cardiologist wrote our treatment protocols, and licensed clinicians in our partner telehealth network deliver your care and write your prescriptions.

  • Bring your Function, Superpower, or other recent labs. You skip a repeat draw to get started, and your clinician can order advanced lipid testing at a local lab if something is missing.
  • Get the labs that guide lipid treatment, included in your membership: a lipid panel and ApoB every quarter, plus liver tests and creatine kinase every 6 months to check that your medicine agrees with you. We don't run the broad whole-body panel that Function or Superpower offer.
  • Get an LDL and ApoB goal that fits your risk and your Lp(a).
  • Step up treatment when needed, from statins and ezetimibe to PCSK9 inhibitors such as Repatha, Praluent, Lipfendra, or Lerochol.
  • Pay $99 a month for care through our cash practice, with no insurance claims or prior authorizations.

Who should pick which

Stay with Function Health if you like the broad yearly snapshot and don't have a result that needs treating.

Pick Superpower if you want similar labs for a little less, or also want access to weight or hormone prescriptions.

Pick Lifeforceif you want quarterly labs, long clinician visits, and hormone or longevity care, and don't mind a monthly membership.

Pick InsideTracker if your goal is diet, fitness, and lifestyle tracking.

See your primary care clinician if your cholesterol is mildly high and you want to use your insurance with someone who knows you.

Pick Preval Health if you have a high LDL, ApoB, or Lp(a)-related risk and want it treated to a specific goal, especially if you're not at goal on a statin, can't tolerate one, or need help getting a PCSK9 inhibitor.

Common questions

Is there a better option than Function Health?

It depends on what you want next. If you want another lab membership, Superpower is the closest match at a slightly lower price ($349 a year versus $365, as of October 2026), and InsideTracker suits people focused on lifestyle tracking. If you already have a high ApoB, LDL, or Lp(a) result, the next step is a clinician who prescribes: your primary care doctor, or a lipid-focused practice like Preval Health.

Is Function Health actually worth it?

For people who want a broad yearly look at many biomarkers, including ApoB and Lp(a), many find it worth the $365. It helps less if you already know your main issue is cholesterol, because Function measures and explains results but does not offer medical advice or prescriptions. You can also ask your own doctor to order ApoB and Lp(a), often covered by insurance.

Is there a way to get Function Health cheaper?

Function's list price was $365 a year as of October 2026. Superpower is similar at $349 a year, though its at-home draw costs extra. If cholesterol is your main concern, you usually save the most by asking your primary care doctor to add ApoB and Lp(a) to a standard lipid panel, which insurance often covers.

Is Superpower or Function Health better?

The two look alike: two blood draws a year, 150 to 160+ tests, and both include ApoB and Lp(a). Superpower costs a little less ($349 versus $365 a year, as of October 2026) and adds a prescription marketplace (for example GLP-1s and testosterone, priced separately). Both draw at Quest labs, and Superpower charges $119 for an at-home draw. Neither treats high cholesterol. See our full Function Health vs. Superpower comparison for details.

Can I use my Function Health results with Preval Health?

Yes. If your results are recent enough to reflect where you are now, we start from them rather than repeating the draw. That includes results from Superpower, Quest, Labcorp, or your doctor's office.

Does Function Health prescribe cholesterol medication?

No. Function's FAQ says it doesn't offer medical advice. It explains each result and flags out-of-range values, and you take those results to a clinician who can prescribe.

Does Superpower prescribe statins?

We didn't find any. As of October 2026, Superpower's marketplace lists prescriptions such as GLP-1 medicines and testosterone, but no statins, ezetimibe, or PCSK9 inhibitors. For cholesterol treatment, take your results to your primary care clinician or a lipid-focused practice.
