Comparison
Preval Health vs. Function Health
Function Health measures your ApoB, and Preval Health treats it. The two services cover different stages of the same problem.
Online, nationwide in the US. Protocols written by a board-certified preventive cardiologist.
Short version
Function Health sells a lab membership: 160+ tests a year for $365 (as of October 2026), with a clean dashboard, and its FAQ says it doesn't offer medical advice. Preval Health runs a lipid-only treatment practice with protocols written by a board-certified preventive cardiologist. We take your ApoB, Lp(a), and LDL cholesterol (LDL-C), whether measured by Function, Quest, or anyone else, and build a treatment plan, including cash-pay access to PCSK9 inhibitors when warranted.

Common questions
Can I use my existing Function Health results with Preval?
Yes. Upload your most recent panel and we start from those numbers. We only ask for a new draw if the results are too old to reflect where you are now.
Does Function Health prescribe medication if my ApoB or Lp(a) is high?
No. Function's FAQ says it doesn't offer medical advice. Its scope is measurement, with 160+ lab tests a year and clinicians reviewing results and flagging issues in a dashboard. Acting on a concerning result takes a separate clinician who prescribes.
Should I cancel Function Health if I sign up with Preval?
You can keep both. Function Health (or Superpower) covers a broad yearly panel, and Preval handles lipid treatment. They serve different purposes and work well together.
Is Preval more expensive than Function Health?
The two fees pay for different services. Function Health's fee ($365 a year as of October 2026) covers lab testing. Preval's fee covers clinician visits, treatment planning, prescription management, and the labs that guide treatment (a lipid panel and ApoB every quarter, liver tests and creatine kinase every 6 months), as a cash practice with no insurance claims. The membership costs $99 a month, and medicines cost extra at cash prices.
Does Function Health test ApoB and Lp(a)?
Yes. As of October 2026, Function's FAQ lists apolipoprotein B, lipoprotein(a), and lipoprotein particle size among its heart markers. Those are the numbers Preval's clinicians use, with LDL, to set your goal.
What should I do if Function Health says my ApoB is high?
Take it seriously and stay calm. A clinician can combine it with your age, blood pressure, family history, and Lp(a) to set an LDL and ApoB goal, then decide whether lifestyle changes are enough or medicine is needed. Your primary care clinician can do this, and so can a lipid-focused practice like Preval Health.
