Comparison
Function Health vs. Superpower
Function Health vs. Superpower: two popular lab memberships with a lot in common. Here's where they differ, and what to do if either one shows a high LDL cholesterol (LDL-C), ApoB, or Lp(a).
Online, nationwide in the US. Protocols written by a board-certified preventive cardiologist.
TL;DR
They're close. Both test 150 to 160+ markers across two draws a year, and both include ApoB and Lp(a). Superpower costs $16 a year less and offers prescriptions for things like weight loss and testosterone. Function covers more states (48 versus 41). Neither one treats high cholesterol, so if your results flag LDL, ApoB, or Lp(a), see a clinician who prescribes next.

Verified on functionhealth.com and superpower.com as of October 2, 2026. The two companies count tests slightly differently, so treat the totals as roughly equal rather than a precise ranking. Prices and panels change; check each site before you buy.
Where they differ
They differ mainly on price, state coverage, and what happens after your results. The heart markers are the same.
Price.Superpower costs $349 a year and Function $365, as of October 2026. The gap can close if you want Superpower's at-home draw, which its own comparison page lists at $119 extra.
Testing. Both run a big first panel (about 100+ markers) and a smaller retest later in the year. Both include the heart markers we care most about: ApoB and Lp(a). For cholesterol, the two panels match.
What happens after. Function gives you clinician-reviewed explanations and flags, and says it doesn't offer medical advice. Superpower gives you an action plan, a care team to message, and a marketplace where you can access prescriptions such as GLP-1s and testosterone. Neither lists cholesterol medicines.
Availability. Function lists 48 states; Superpower lists 41. Check that your state is covered before you sign up.
Function Health may suit you if
- You live in a state Superpower doesn't cover
- You want the slightly larger test count (160+ versus 150+)
- You want optional imaging add-ons like MRI or CT
- You want to pay with HSA or FSA funds
Superpower may suit you if
- You want the slightly lower annual price
- You want access to weight-loss or testosterone prescriptions in the same app
- You like messaging a care team about your results
- You want a set price ($119) for an at-home draw
If your results show high LDL, ApoB, or Lp(a)
Take the result to a clinician who prescribes. Both memberships hand off here. A flagged ApoB or Lp(a) gives you useful information, and a clinician can turn it into a goal and a plan.
- Learn what the number means. Start with what ApoB is, what Lp(a) is, and our practical guides on how to lower ApoB and how to lower LDL.
- See your primary care clinician. For many people, this suits as a first step. They can calculate your risk and start a statin if needed, and insurance usually covers the visit.
- Consider lipid-focused care if you're not at goal on a statin, can't tolerate one, have a high Lp(a) or a family history of early heart disease, or need a PCSK9 inhibitor approved.
Preval Health focuses only on prescription lipid management. A board-certified preventive cardiologist wrote our treatment protocols, and licensed clinicians in our partner telehealth network deliver care and write prescriptions. Bring your Function or Superpower results, and we start from there with an LDL and ApoB goal set for you, rechecks on schedule, and step-up treatment through PCSK9 inhibitors (Repatha, Praluent, Lipfendra, or Lerochol) when needed. If a marker is missing, your clinician can order advanced lipid testing at a local lab. Preval runs as a cash practice, at $99 a month for care.
Common questions
Is Superpower or Function Health better?
They work almost the same way. Both include two blood draws a year, 150 to 160+ tests, and ApoB and Lp(a). As of October 2026, Superpower costs $349 a year versus $365 for Function, and adds a prescription marketplace (for example GLP-1s and testosterone, priced separately). Both draw at Quest labs. Pick on price, state coverage, and whether you want prescription access for weight or hormones.
Which is cheaper, Function Health or Superpower?
Superpower, by $16 a year as of October 2026: $349 versus $365 for Function. The gap closes if you add Superpower's at-home draw, which costs $119, and Superpower notes that pricing may vary in New York and New Jersey.
Is there anything better than Function Health?
It depends on the goal. For broad labs, Superpower matches it closely at a slightly lower price. If you already have a high ApoB, LDL, or Lp(a), you need treatment next, and neither membership treats cholesterol. Your primary care clinician or a lipid-focused practice like Preval Health can prescribe.
Is a Superpower blood test worth it?
If you want a broad picture of 150+ biomarkers twice a year and like an app-based experience, many people find it worth $349. If your main question is about cholesterol, you can often get a lipid panel, ApoB, and Lp(a) ordered by your own doctor and covered by insurance.
Does Function Health or Superpower prescribe cholesterol medication?
Function does not prescribe; its FAQ says it does not offer medical advice. Superpower offers prescriptions through a marketplace, such as GLP-1s and testosterone, but we found no statins or other cholesterol medicines listed as of October 2026. For cholesterol treatment, take your results to a clinician who prescribes lipid medicines.
What should I do if my ApoB or Lp(a) is high on Function or Superpower?
Take it seriously and stay calm. ApoB counts the particles that build plaque, and Lp(a) is a mostly inherited risk factor. Bring the results to your primary care clinician or a lipid-focused practice. A clinician can calculate your overall risk, set an LDL and ApoB goal, and decide whether diet changes are enough or medicine is needed.
Which biomarker testing companies are the best?
Function Health and Superpower are the two most similar large lab memberships. InsideTracker centers on lifestyle recommendations and lets you upload labs you already have. Lifeforce adds quarterly labs with clinician visits for a monthly fee. The right one depends on whether you want data, coaching, or treatment.
