Evidence database

The cholesterol trial database

106 trials and meta-analyses behind today's cholesterol medicines, from 1984 to 2026. Each summary comes from the trial's PubMed abstract, with its key sentence quoted word for word so you can check it. Our treatment protocols follow this evidence, and here it is for you to read.

How we built it

Trials curated by drug class; primary report identified in PubMed; fields extracted from the PubMed abstract only; each record carries a verbatim supporting quote, and all numbers in result fields were checked automatically against the abstract text.

Common questions

Where does this information come from?

From the PubMed abstract of each trial's main report. Every record quotes the sentence its result came from, every number in the results was checked automatically against the abstract text, and every PubMed ID matches its paper's title and year. Each trial page links to PubMed so you can read the source.

Why include trials that found no benefit?

Leaving them out would make the evidence look stronger than it is. 18 of the 106 studies here found no clear benefit or found harm, and they stay in.

Does a good trial result mean a medicine is right for me?

Trials describe groups of people. A licensed clinician weighs your own history, numbers and other medicines before recommending treatment. This database is for education, not medical advice.

Can I download the data?

Yes. The full database is free to download as JSON or CSV from the links on this page.
